Barron River- Half Day Rafting
We were picked up for our Barron River- Half Day Rafting Trip at around 2pm. The driver was courteous and on time. They had a couple more pickup’s to do then we made our way to Lake Placid where we started the tour. On the way to this point we had a thorough and informative safety briefing.Once alighting from the bus, the equipment was unloaded and distributed. This gave people the last chance to have a cigarette for our smokers or meet other guests on the tour before getting wet. We were split into groups and allocated our guides. The best attire to bring is the same as you would wear to the reef with a reef sandal or croc type shoes. If the guest does not have any of these, footwear is available for hire for a small fee. The initial terrain is rocky so bare feet is not really a viable option.Once we loaded into the rafts we were given a quick lesson in rafting and run through the safety procedures etc. We then set off down the Barron River for the 1 ½ hour journey. The trip was reasonably uneventful except for the rushes of adrenalin as we pass through the rapids and drop offs. At the end of that part a particular raft was unaccounted for. The guides ripped into action straight away and all efforts were made to locate the raft, meanwhile ensuring no panic to the rest of the tour. They were very professional and I never felt any danger at any time. The raft was located, they had become stuck briefly.
The light was getting darker and we estimate that it added about 45 mins to an hour to the trip, but it was none the less an excellent trip in the end. There were only about two more rapids to go then a very long paddle to the end. Although the terrain was beautiful, the paddle at the end would have been preferred to be shorter.
At the end of the tour a group photo was taken and we were able to get changed and grab a quick bite to eat and drink. The Photo’s were available in a few different packages. I purchased a photo pack, but didn’t get the photos at the end of the trip, but at a later date. They ususally deliver them within 24 hours to 48 hours after a trip to guests hotels. If guests are leaving pretty sooner after the trip, Foaming Fury are more than happy to post out a USB stick with the photos loaded. Just let them have your details at the time of purchasing a package
I would recommend the Barron River- Half Day Rafting trip as a great way to spend an afternoon, particularly if you haven’t rafted before.
