Value Tours-Kuranda-Gold Class Train and Skyrail
Travel review submitted on September 16th 2013 – Anna – Kuranda- Gold Class Train and Skyrail
Please note that, I chose to add the Gold Class service to my day trip. This is at an extra cost on top of the price advertised, this tour is called a VSQ+G.
Checked in at Freshwater station at 9.30am where we were given our tickets for Value Tours-Kuranda-Gold Class Train and Skyrail day trip. The check in counter was quite busy with other people paying and booking the train & Skyrail packages but everything moved along quickly.
The train arrived at Freshwater station at 9.50am. When we boarded the Gold Class carriage, we were greeted by Kuranda Scenic staff, we boarded the train and found our way easily to our pre booked seats. The numbers were located (on window ledge).
Once the Train started towards Kuranda a staff member came round and gave each person a drink menu, returning a few minutes later to take our drink order. Drinks were served then croissants and sausage rolls were brought around. We also tasted local wines, mango sorbet from the Tablelands, locally grown Macadamia nuts and Tablelands tropical fruit. We also had commentary during the hour and a half train ride at different sections.
The train slowed down at Stoney Creek Falls (enough to get a good picture) then stopped at Barron falls for us to hop out and take pictures for 10 minutes. Once you stop at Barron falls no more alcohol was served on the train.
When arriving at the Kuranda train station, we were given a personal tour of the old historical station.
We spent our 2 hours wandering around Kuranda – taking in the village and the attractions. The Kuranda markets were open and also half of the stalls at the old Kuranda Markets too. It was mid week so a little quiet in Kuranda people wise. This was actually lovely as you could look around without the crowds. On a weekend all of the markets are in full swing, but a great turn out of stall holders considering it being mid week and low season. We decided to change our return time on the Skyrail to a little earlier and to have lunch at the Skyrail Café down at the Skyrail restaurant at Caravonica and then get our transfer bus back to Cairns. Wonderfully relaxing and interesting day out.
